His Dream Turned Into The Legacy We Carry Today

Sylvester Townsend Sr. was a man of humble beginnings, after starting two small businesses he began a career at the General Motors Fairfax Plant in Kansas City, KS. This career path eventually led Sylvester and his young family to Detroit, MI and eventually Dayton, OH. In the 1980’s, after spending over twenty years working for GM, he had elevated himself to Superintendent of the Material Department. Ten years away from retirement, a group of gentlemen approached him about an opportunity to become a minority supplier for General Motors. In 1984, Jamestown Industries Inc., an automotive component assembly business was founded in Jamestown, Ohio. Upon starting the business, Sylvester accepted his opportunity with sacrifice and hard work. By the early 1990’s, after relocating to Moraine, OH, the venture had expanded to four buildings that sequenced and shipped over one million various auto parts per month to the GM Moraine Truck Plant. He employed over 600 people. Sylvester had a principle that you should always give people a second chance.
